The idea was to put two people together, give some guidelines, and let the magic happen. I had the pleasure to work with @MissJuan (Juan) and @ErkthaJerk (Erk) on this shoot. I came up with this idea on a whim curious to see what my results would be. I have always admired Juan’s personal style, it is always so effortless. She makes a fitted not look like a joke and I am always intrigued with the combination of her outfits. She really does just wake up like that…and it’s great. To shoot Juan I called on the multi talented Erk who does an amazing job of capturing the essence of a subject and not ruin it by airbrushing the hell out of the final photo. Our Sunday adventure was so much fun. We almost got hit by cars, hawked by strangers, and climbed on an old school truck. I am so proud to show you the sum of our work. Check out my interview with Juan after the drop!

I’m always trying to figure out new ways to stretch my creativity and I also enjoy working with others who are good at things that I am not. Like many stylishly conscious people I look to celebrities, artists, and designers to pull inspiration for my personal style. However the most effective influence can be found right in your own backyard.
Living in Oakland I feel like have access to a multitude of cultures and people who have distinct personal style. Since I have moved here I can see how my environment has directly influenced how I dress. This prompted me to come up with the “Locally Fresh” series. The goal is to put two people together. One photographer and one subject with distinct personal style, give them some guidelines and very little direction and see what happens. I believe in magic and to me this is what magic looks like. Identifying strengths and watching them flourish. I’m excited to share this first installment with you this week and hope that something about this influences you to take risks and be creative. Let me be your tour guide or a curator if you will of style.
Don’t mess this up for me! As most know by now there is going to be a gargantuan restock of Jordan’s Saturday on Eastbay.com. Now I am not one to buy every single Jordan that comes out. I strive to maintain a balance in my closet between heels and sneakers. However there are three pairs of Jays that I missed out on that are going to be on sale Saturday that I MUST get. My soul will not rest until I have them. Like I said There’s ONLY three and most have Nostalgic value because I couldn’t afford (and my mom wasn’t having it) to buy them when they first came out when I was a kid.
I love Tumblr. It’s a black hole of coolness that I can get sucked into about 15 mins each day and leave inspired to change my whole wardrobe and interior design someone’s place. The past couple of weeks I have been working on some things for the site so I have been going to my Tumblr to get my creative juices flowing. I also use it to get personal outfit inspiration as well (which is scary because it makes me want to go shopping) Here are some faves for the week also follow my Tumblr StylingOnYouHeauxs.
This is a anything post…..
So Sneakercon came to the Bay today and thanks to my homie giving me the heads up because I totally missed that memo. I have seen pics and blog posts about Sneakercon but never have had the opportunity to experience the event for myself.
I can’t believe this is becoming a fashion thing. Berkinstocks or “sliders” are slowly creeping their way onto trendy tumblr. I have never been a fan of those sandals and if this is what’s happening I’m allowed to wear sneakers to the next 3 formal events I have to go to. I spent part of my youth in Berkeley California. So seeing people rocking Berks was totally the norm and I wasn’t a fan then. No matter how you slice it or what designer makes their ridiculously overpriced version. In my eyes they will never be fetch ever. The ones in the pic above are by GIAMBATTISTA VALLI and retail for 825.00
Like I said. This trend can go. And stay away.
