Today arguably the song that some people saved Vol. 3 turns 17. I distinctly remember when this song came out. I was a sophomore in highschool and very deep into my relationship with rap. Continue reading

Happy Monday?
Well……Monday is def doing is typical thing and acting like a Monday. So here’s some things to make the day better and change the tone for the week if you need it like I do!
- Light Candles and Meditate. Meditation has become a staple in my life in keeping me focused and managing stress. I like to meditate before I go to bed to help set the tone for my sleep and the following day. However if you are having a day like mine you may want to go out to your car (if you’re at work) and take 5. I really like THIS 5 min guided meditation that helps align your chakras. I literally vibrate after I’m done and feel ready to face the rest of the day. If I am at home, I really enjoy lighting candles generally but I also like to light them while I am meditating. I am really into these candles from Angelic Rose Essentials. Not only are they beautiful to look at they smell amazing even after blowing them out. The Postiano and ocean drive scents are sure to help with dealing with the “Mondays”.
Locally Fresh: Champagne X Cupcakes…
Last night I decided to not stay home and get into “Empire” (still not) but instead kick it with my bros for a night of fellowship, Hennessy(champagne, wine), and Fun at Champagne and Cupcakes (yes…they really had cupcakes.) I usually don’t go out too much during the week especially when I have work in the morning. However, I was feeling festive and thought why not? I can sacrifice a little shut eye. The event was held at Parliament in Downtown Oakland, and the vibe was very cool. The music was great too (shout out to DJ Red Corvette and drinks were for the low. It happens once a month so keep your eye out for the announcement of the next one. Check out my pics below.
Jam Of The Week: Sza…

Her hair is amazing and her music is as well. I have been listening to Sza for a while now and I just can’t stop. This week her latest drop “Z” has been in heavy rotation. When I’m getting dressed in the morning for work, going out, or cleaning up; it always ends up on the playlist. Her voice is so smooth and her personal style totally reminds me of myself (now if I can just figure out her hair situation I will really flourish in these streets.)
Currently Jamming To….
*pop*bodyrolls*twerks* Repeat. This song has been on repeat in my car for the last couple of days. I have always enjoyed Big Krit’s music and always thought he was a looker. So when I fell upon this song I was so here for it. Take a listen and tell me your thoughts. I can’t write too much because I’m too busy dancing.
Currently Jamming To…
I’m not much of an R&B downtime music listener(Unless it’s ’90s R&B). I feel like the timing has be appropriate for me to be in that mindset. I won’t divulge into what those times are but take a wild (or a couple) of wild guesses. Anyway I love Hip-Hop music and I like to play my music really loud, especially in my car. So slow jams are not my choice when I am blasting music down the street. My father is a musician so I grew up having some kind of studio set up in my house (so blame him for the loudness, Thanks Dad!) Anyway PartyNextDoor dropped an album last week under my BFF Drake’s OVO sound umbrella. Continue reading
Jam Of The Week…..
I have been a fan of Janelle Monae since I heard “Letting Go” on the “Purple Ribbin All Stars” compilation album. The musicality of her songs and the fact that she stays true to her creativity I truly admire. Plus shes great on stage and hella fine. This week she dropped a video for the song “Electric Lady” and I’m in love with it. I have been obsessing over this varsity jacket (that I’m afraid to share but may in another post) so when I saw Janelle wearing one in her video I knew it was a sign. It also has a college sorority feel to it and some of you know(or not) that I pledged in college so it totally tickled me. Anyway check out the video below its super cute and has cameos from TI, Joi, and choreographer Fatima (all three people I totally LOVE)
“Lookin Like She Came From the ’70’s on Her Own…”
This was my first weekend off in two weeks. So I was juiced to do nothing but chill out! Resting is just as important as working and I for sure needed the rest. So Friday I headed to my friends restaurant in downtown Oakland called The Cook And Her Farmer. Had some wine, delicious French fries, and crawfish. Hung out with my friends Camille and Randi of @papidrinkswine and then went to First Fridays shortly. During our Friday adventure Randi and I have our usual convo about the weekend and fashions…Yes fashions. We both like to have themes in mind when we get dressed and were thinking about how it would be to have a theme for the whole weekend. So she said “lookin like she came from the ’70s on her own” a lyric from our BFF in our head Drake. I was so excited this was going to be so much fun trying to pull off and immediately started running through my mental wardrobe of items I could wear . I had a vintage dress I found at Green Boutique a while ago that I have been waiting to wear (and now that it fits I was def throwing that joint on).
The next day we headed to the Cultivate Festival at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco sponsored by Chipotle and got our flourish on. The event was free (which is always a plus) and they have live bands like Charlie XCX, demos, local breweries, and free samples (not to mention stroopwaffle). Overall it was a good time and so glad she suggested we do something different. If you ever need something to do download the YPlan app it has local events including free ones when you want to change your weekends up a bit. Thank @papidrinkswine for putting me on and then thank me for putting you on…win.
Throwback Thursday: My First Pro Styling Gig……
So we all start somewhere. The bottom is very real. I was living in Atlanta trying to make my dream work. I knew I loved fashion and I was hustling to make it happen. I used to hang out in Little 5 Points in East Atlanta a lot. It reminded me of Berkeley, CA just on a very, very small scale. Anyway I would hang out at Vinnie’s Styles and argue about how Jay-Z is the best rapper ever and talk fashion. They taught me so much about street wear and men’s fashion during those convos that has extremely contributed to the knowledge that I have developed today.
I’m not completely sure how this opportunity came about to style this video, but I know the staff at Vinnies’ (shout out to Shaq and Ski) believed in me and helped me so much with the prep. It’s funny to look at the video now because it looks so dated and the clothes were so basic. But it is all about the principle. Even with the job being hard, having no help, and getting paid next to nothing ( I actually lost money) I felt most like myself and the most at home. When you are doing what you love being tired from working is so fulfilling. We all had to start somewhere. This was part of my start….
Fun Night Out: Pusha T x 2 Chainz….
Going to concerts is one of my favorite activities. I really enjoy live music because I feel like you really get an understanding of the artists work and interpretation of the music. So to kick off my 2014 concert season I got to see none other than Pusha T and 2 Chainz. Both of these artists I am a fan of for two different reasons, Pusha T is partly responsible for Play Cloths and is 1/2 of the Clipse and 2 Chainz is from my second home, a foodie, and an all around good time.
Anyway I feel like for hip hop concerts your attire should be inspired by the event. Don’t wear club dresses to rap concerts. You are there to have a good time, jump around and dance. So I like to wear sneakers and sweatshirts (that’s a constant in my life but I digress) If the show is coming to your hood…GO! The show was really good and well executed. Not a milllion people on stage, good story telling and lighting and fun! You can check the tour schedule HERE. Peep some shots below thumbs up to @Katia for the amazing pics!
You know I had to throw my spin on it. Vintage Chilly O and Melody Ehsani.
