The amount of time I spend on my AM and PM skincare routine may be borderline out of control. However the results that I am getting from being serious about my skin are WORTH the time I put in into it. A product that has become a staple in both my AM and PM routine is Rose Water. I use it as a toner right after I cleanse my face and prep for the next steps of my routine. Continue reading

Fri-YAY! Flower Edition.

I am super big on self care and through practice I have discovered self care comes in more ways than just caring for your physical. One of the ways that I practice self care is buying myself weekly (or bi weekly depending on the money flow 😉 ) flowers. Continue reading

Don’t Tell Me What to Wear!

FullSizeRender

Style and Fashion is something that I have always had a connection to. I was having a conversation with a friend on Friday night and the subject of personal style came up and how that resonates with me. I believe for most of my life I have had a strong sense of ownership over my style. As a child I felt like that was the only thing that I actually had control over at the time. Like most kids I had to go to school, do chores, had extra curricular activities that I was forced to do (shout out to Chess Club and Soccer). Everything was planned out for me…naturally.

Made In A Chicago Hood…

IMG_5257

Chicago is a very cool place in my book. Visually the city eye catching, just beautiful to me. I have family there, and the restaurants are bomb. Plus, Kanye is from there and y’all know how I feel about Kanye. Anyway, I found out about this brand a couple years ago because I kept randomly seeing some of my Atlanta homies rocking these tie dye hoodies that said “Dope Boy Magic” on them. I thought they were dope and EVERY time I tried to get one, they would be sold out.

Personal Style: Sweatpants are Always Appropriate…

IMG_4264.JPG

Sweatpants will always be a in my closet, and I will always try to wear them with anything, anywhere. They are just comfortable and because they are popular right now, you can find a plethora of styles in stores and online. These Marshall Nash “Party Queen” sweats are a great addition if you are looking for some sweats that will be universal. There is always more than one way to wear a sweat suit and I am always on a mission to make them work for any occasion.

I’m No Model Either Baby…

IMG_4266.JPG

Every time I do a post or work with someone where I’m the subject of the photo shoot… I get slightly stressed out. I wanted to be a stylist because they work behind the scenes. I have just never been totally comfortable in front of the camera (still not). In this day and age of the personal style blogger. Sometimes it is necessary to be the subject, le sigh, and those days are the ones that are a challenge for me.

Happy Birthday!

IMG_3997.JPG

Happy Birthday to me! Who knew I could have two birthdays?! (my legit one is in January) Today a year ago I decided to get back into doing what I love and start blogging. I must say it is one of the best choices I’ve made this year. I love fashion and love people even more. To be able to write about my friends, people I admire, things I love (and not so much) has enabled me to flex creatively and learn about my strengths and bring them out in others. Having this blog has encouraged me to take risks and put myself out there is a way that I was not used to or comfortable with. To me this is not just another fashion blog, to me it’s something that I want you to love and appreciate and become something that you feel is yours as much as it is mine. Discipline is something that is a challenge for me sometimes, so being able to commit and stay consistent just means more for everyone ( and proof to myself that I am not a world class procrastinator.)  Thank you to all my friends, Family, and STRANGERS. Who retweet, like, re post , comment and come up to me in the streets to show love. It really means a lot to me. I will continue to commit to you and create. Thank you. And have some Hennessy for me today!

Gratefully,

Maryam (but my real name is Unicorn Shawty)

Locally Fresh: Porsche W.

IMG_2903.JPG

I am a self proclaimed introvert until I have some Hennessy. Which is why on a sunny Sunday afternoon I saw Porsche while turning up at a day party and was able to talk to a then stranger. Her style was magnetic, you could tell just by looking at her that getting dressed for her was effortless. So of course she had to be the next installment in my “Locally Fresh” series. This time around I used “Ralph” and shot Porsche myself. I was also able to ask her some questions and talk style for a bit. Check out the interview below and get to know this “Chic Little Hippie” better.

First things first Shateria Moragne-EL is one of my girl crushes. She is so awesome to me style, hair, swag (yes swag). Shes basically everything, so my love for this line is so legit. I also have an even deeper love for gold toned jewelry so this whole situation is right up my alley. Anyway Shateria’s cool girl clothing line teamed up with LA based jeweler Mylo to create this fun Longitude x Latitude collection. The line includes bracelects, rings, and earrings that all have something to do with locale. Continue reading
