Follow Rules….For What?

I was doing my daily peruse through My Tumblr and came across this photo. I liked it. Reblogged it. And kept it moving. Then a lightbulb went off in my head. I started thinking about all the rules that people try to put on others when it comes to personal style. It’s called PERSONAL style for a reason. It’s yours, and what you do with it is your business. Anyway, one so called rule that annoys me is this not repeating outfits rule. The hell!? Most people must be ballin in these streets but for this full time student/employee/entrepreneur that’s not an option. I’ll repeat and remix something several times and don’t be surprised if you see it on Instagram several times as well. Continue reading

May Moods…..

This month I am still obsessed with my Tumblr and it is totally serving me when it comes to giving me motivation for my outfits. Naturally I am into texture, mixing prints, and masculine and feminine styles. I’m what you call an emotional dresser, so depending on my mood, or the music I’m listening to that is the look I go for. I also made a mood board, that I have hung in my room that I look at to motivate me when getting dressed too.

There has been a lot of life events that I have participated in over the past couple of weeks. Bridal Showers, Birthdays, and Wedding celebrations. So I’ve had to actually put on dress clothes and put down the sneakers. I actually enjoy dressing up when I have the opportunity, living in Oakland I feel like I don’t get to much  because it’s so laid back( and I have the dressed down look waaaaay covered) I also have a photo shoot Sunday for a blog feature that I’m in. I am SO nervous about this, since I am always behind the scenes and a general goof troop when It comes to be a serious Model. Also having it only be one look, is a challenge because getting a feel for my style in one swoop is going to be hard for me to convey. Stay tuned for the pics from that! Let this mood board motivate you to flourish this weekend! Happy Friday!

Throwback Thursday: My First Pro Styling Gig……

So we all start somewhere. The bottom is very real. I was living in Atlanta trying to make my dream work. I knew I loved fashion and I was hustling to make it happen. I used to hang out in Little 5 Points in East Atlanta a lot. It reminded me of Berkeley, CA just on a very, very small scale. Anyway I would hang out at Vinnie’s Styles and argue about how Jay-Z is the best rapper ever and talk fashion. They taught me so much about street wear and men’s fashion during those convos that has extremely contributed to the knowledge that I have developed today.

I’m not completely sure how this opportunity came about to style this video, but I know the staff at Vinnies’ (shout out to Shaq and Ski) believed in me and helped me so much with the prep. It’s funny to look at the video now because it looks so dated and the clothes were so basic. But it is all about the principle. Even with the job being hard, having no help, and getting paid next to nothing ( I actually lost money) I felt most like myself and the most at home. When you are doing what you love being tired from working is so fulfilling. We all had to start somewhere. This was part of my start….

I’ve Been Workin, I’ve Been Workin…..

So I’ve been slacking on blogging. Which is not cool. But I’ve been busy! I had the opportunity to style a photo shoot for one of my favorite brands Marshall Nash. It’s always a good time on set when working with JaEvon and she always casts cool models to work with. The vision was inspired by the movie “The Lost Boys” mixed with girly elements. Bringing these two ideas together and making it modern was a fun challenge to take on. I can’t wait to share the final edits with you guys. I always get super proud and excited to show work that I was apart if and see how a group of people contribute to an end result. Check out some behind the scenes below!
