Happy belated girl. I was too busy sipping on my favorite cognac and hanging out with my friends to wish you a happy birthday on Friday. So here is my belated. Thank you for being the independent bad bitch land of opportunity. Where we can be whatever we want to be. I hope one day to contribute to your fabulousness in a positive way for years to come. At your old age you still look the tender age of 21. You go girl!
This weekend I went to LA to handle some business and have some fun with my friend Roxanne. For starters I’m not the biggest fan of LA for a place to live, but I do like to visit. I am a highly visual person so seeing things that inspire and stimulate me visually are my bag. The streets and adorable little neighborhoods with very interesting architecture always make me feel like I could live there (until I get on the freeway and that TRAFFIC!). There’s also the beach and it’s very diverse which is another plus. Anyway I arrived Saturday morning and went to Pan’s diner for breakfast. We were going to Roscoes but I didn’t feel like being cliché and so that’s where we ended up. Later we headed to Melrose so I could get “winged” at the Melody Ehsani store and also visit Supreme, Crooks, and a couple of others as well as snap some pics with MY NEW CAMERA!!!!!! (my photos on here are about to be SO POPPIN!
I was trying my new shoes on and decided to have a photo shoot with them! If you follow this blog you know I live in Oakland, CA. Which is the laid back capitol of my world at least. So naturally I have a lot of sneakers. Most of the events and activities I go to they are allowed and my job doesn’t require me to dress up so I opt for sneakers over heels often. Don’t get me wrong, I love me a heel. I enjoy a sexy, interesting, feminine shoe just as I do a crisp pair of Jordans. However you have to have balance in your closet and mine was not. Every time it was time to dress up, it was a struggle and I was limited on what I could wear because I only had a few pairs of heels and NO essentials or classics. So I saw Zara was having a really good sale, so I copped me a pair. I think I spent a total of $150 on four pairs of shoes (one not pictured because I’m still on the fence about them) Anyway check Zara out during sale time, it’s for sure the come up.

This is a story about how I was a flaky late bird and missed out on a purchase I wanted to make. Now this doesn’t happen to me too often so when it does I spiral into the biggest crybaby for a few hours. Case in point the shirt above. I’ve never been one to seek out the spotlight or want to be front and center. Which is why I initially wanted to be a stylist. I enjoyed being behind the scenes and letting my work speak for me. I have always been that way; no matter how I may have looked or felt about myself my work was going to be thing that made me confident and made the trash talkers shut up. However in the age of the internet and social media, and being a blogger part of your brand is YOU. So naturally as you grow people want to interview you. A while back I had Lauren Hailey of MissLaurenHailey.com contact me to do an interview for her blog which included a photo shoot. I was so excited to do it but scared as hell. This was my first weekend off in two weeks. So I was juiced to do nothing but chill out! Resting is just as important as working and I for sure needed the rest. So Friday I headed to my friends restaurant in downtown Oakland called The Cook And Her Farmer. Had some wine, delicious French fries, and crawfish. Hung out with my friends Camille and Randi of @papidrinkswine and then went to First Fridays shortly. During our Friday adventure Randi and I have our usual convo about the weekend and fashions…Yes fashions. We both like to have themes in mind when we get dressed and were thinking about how it would be to have a theme for the whole weekend. So she said “lookin like she came from the ’70s on her own” a lyric from our BFF in our head Drake. I was so excited this was going to be so much fun trying to pull off and immediately started running through my mental wardrobe of items I could wear . I had a vintage dress I found at Green Boutique a while ago that I have been waiting to wear (and now that it fits I was def throwing that joint on).
The next day we headed to the Cultivate Festival at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco sponsored by Chipotle and got our flourish on. The event was free (which is always a plus) and they have live bands like Charlie XCX, demos, local breweries, and free samples (not to mention stroopwaffle). Overall it was a good time and so glad she suggested we do something different. My Nixon 42-20 Chrono watch. I have always been a fan of gold toned jewelry and timepieces. I guess it speaks to my inner rapper kingpin vibe. They are classy with just a hint of gaudy. I received this watch about 2 years ago for my birthday. I had been stalking and pining after it for about a year and a half prior to actually receiving it. I enjoy Men’s watches because it has just the right amount of hardware and weight to give a masculine feel to my looks which I enjoy. Every time I wear this watch a get a compliment from a guy (they know). I enjoy Nixon watches because they are unique and very well made (their warranty is pretty decent too fyi), on top of them being a lifestyle brand and they also stand out among the sea of Michael Kors (no shade, whatever floats your style boat) I love my watch I wear it all the time and with everything.

Man oh man! I am no good. The month of May has decided to be so busy that I cannot find any time to just sit and write. Between preparing for Bonnaroo in June, working my side/main hustle (also known as my day job) and coming up with new project for the site, I have been SWAMPED. I feel sad because I really enjoy blogging and just writing in general but my spirit has to be in the right place. I have also been going though major changes so that may have contributed to my slackness. But these excuses are neither here nor there and when you know better you do better. So I’ll just do better. I am working on a new editorial with a fellow stylist that I am excited about and working on getting some new tools to produce better work (hello Ipad, hello new laptop, hello camera) Which means better posts and cooler stuff for you all to read and see! So this is my apology note for being a slacker. Tis all.

This month I am still obsessed with my Tumblr and it is totally serving me when it comes to giving me motivation for my outfits. Naturally I am into texture, mixing prints, and masculine and feminine styles. I’m what you call an emotional dresser, so depending on my mood, or the music I’m listening to that is the look I go for. I also made a mood board, that I have hung in my room that I look at to motivate me when getting dressed too.
There has been a lot of life events that I have participated in over the past couple of weeks. Bridal Showers, Birthdays, and Wedding celebrations. So I’ve had to actually put on dress clothes and put down the sneakers. I actually enjoy dressing up when I have the opportunity, living in Oakland I feel like I don’t get to much because it’s so laid back( and I have the dressed down look waaaaay covered) I also have a photo shoot Sunday for a blog feature that I’m in. I am SO nervous about this, since I am always behind the scenes and a general goof troop when It comes to be a serious Model. Also having it only be one look, is a challenge because getting a feel for my style in one swoop is going to be hard for me to convey. Stay tuned for the pics from that! This week has been trying it and rewarding in so many ways and it’s not over. However we have to start on Monday. I went to the side hustle (my day job) came home, went to the gym, then started organizing my closet. In the middle of me doing that (which I didn’t even want to do in the first place, I love clothes….dislike folding them) the water heater decides it’s done and bursts. Leaks water everyyyyyyyyyyywhere! Which meant, I had to stop what I was doing to prevent swimming in my living room. Continue reading
