The idea was to put two people together, give some guidelines, and let the magic happen. I had the pleasure to work with @MissJuan (Juan) and @ErkthaJerk (Erk) on this shoot. I came up with this idea on a whim curious to see what my results would be. I have always admired Juan’s personal style, it is always so effortless. She makes a fitted not look like a joke and I am always intrigued with the combination of her outfits. She really does just wake up like that…and it’s great. To shoot Juan I called on the multi talented Erk who does an amazing job of capturing the essence of a subject and not ruin it by airbrushing the hell out of the final photo. Our Sunday adventure was so much fun. We almost got hit by cars, hawked by strangers, and climbed on an old school truck. I am so proud to show you the sum of our work. I’m always trying to figure out new ways to stretch my creativity and I also enjoy working with others who are good at things that I am not. Like many stylishly conscious people I look to celebrities, artists, and designers to pull inspiration for my personal style. However the most effective influence can be found right in your own backyard.

Living in Oakland I feel like have access to a multitude of cultures and people who have distinct personal style. Since I have moved here I can see how my environment has directly influenced how I dress. This prompted me to come up with the “Locally Fresh” series. The goal is to put two people together. One photographer and one subject with distinct personal style, give them some guidelines and very little direction and see what happens. I believe in magic and to me this is what magic looks like. Identifying strengths and watching them flourish. I’m excited to share this first installment with you this week and hope that something about this influences you to take risks and be creative. Let me be your tour guide or a curator if you will of style.

Don’t mess this up for me! As most know by now there is going to be a gargantuan restock of Jordan’s Saturday on Eastbay.com. Now I am not one to buy every single Jordan that comes out. I strive to maintain a balance in my closet between heels and sneakers. However there are three pairs of Jays that I missed out on that are going to be on sale Saturday that I MUST get. My soul will not rest until I have them. Like I said There’s ONLY three and most have Nostalgic value because I couldn’t afford (and my mom wasn’t having it) to buy them when they first came out when I was a kid.

I love Tumblr. It’s a black hole of coolness that I can get sucked into about 15 mins each day and leave inspired to change my whole wardrobe and interior design someone’s place. The past couple of weeks I have been working on some things for the site so I have been going to my Tumblr to get my creative juices flowing. Beyonce Is Slanging Merch: Flawless Flannel

Beyonce keeps dropping this awesome tour merchandise. Her album sweatshirts and tees and now the “Flawless” flannel from the second leg of her world tour is now available to purchase. With her super popular and fun jewelry line and funky Reeboks under her belt, it’s only natural that clothing is up next. In browsing the lookbook the clothing is very much an extension of her brand and will be easy to spot a mile away. There were def a couple of pieces I would like to add to my rotation. Today marks the birthday of Nike’s iconic shoe… The Air Max! Turning 28 today Nike made “air visible” by showcasing an air bubble in the sole. With the collaborative efforts of Frank Rudy, Mark Parker, and Tinker Hatfield. This team revolutionized the way we see air. To celebrate this great day in sneaker history Nike is releasing a special shoe for its birthday!

When you hear “I Am Styling On You” what does that mean?

The term first brings to mind CONFIDENCE. Confidence not only in yourself but what you are bringing to the table and going put on display for the world. The term “i am styling on you” creates a mindset and describes a person that is confident not only in their fashion sense but also in self worth. It’s a lifestyle that we must become devoted to in order to SHINE! in more ways than one.

What Sneaker brands are you a fan of? Why?

Sneaker brands that I am a fan cover many lifestyles and demographics. MY FIRST LOVE AND MAIN CHICK is and WILL ALWAYS BE NIKE! LOL I could not sit here and say that Nike did not spark my shoe interest. 1993 The Nike Air Raid aka “ Tim Hardaway” changed my LIFE!! and a Love affair with sneakers began! There have been brands that have made nice sneakers over the years but M has remained consistent. I think thats what draws me to them. Nike can release a pair of shoes from 20yrs ago and SELLOUT! No matter what is or has been set the set the bar! PERIOD!! lol but don’t sleep on other brands… Adidas, Puma, Reebok, Asics, Del Toro, Timberland, New Balance, RedWing, Converse, FILA the list is LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG.

Closet Essentials: The Fringe Bag

My style is truly a mixture of several inspirations. Men’s & Women’s high fashion, street wear, movies, rock stars, family members, you name it. So it’s perfectly normal to catch me in sneakers, random Wal Mart sweats and a unique girly purse. I carry my fringed bag ALOT. So much so that it’s on it’s last days. So I am on the market for a new one. No matter what I have on ,my fringe bag gives the right amount of rock star and femininity. It moves when you walk and has a bit of sass. It works for all seasons too! Some may not agree… But to me that’s exactly what makes personal style…..PERSONAL.
