So Necessary: Adidas Stan Smith

IMG_4333.JPG

My big sister was a huge and still is huge a Adidas fan. I remember her wearing gazelles as a kid and wished that we had the same shoe size so I could wear hers to school. My older sister is the first person who instilled the importance of having a quality sneaker collection in my life. She had Stan Smiths in every color and will wear them with the flyest sweatsuits to school. So I have always had a love for them. However it’s really hard for me to keep white shoes clean so I have ran through several pairs of Stan Smiths. My favorite story about a pair of Smith’s that I had was when I was living in Atlanta and I was hanging out with my sister by Stankonia and Alex studios. Continue reading

Personal Style: Sweatpants are Always Appropriate…

Sweatpants will always be a in my closet, and I will always try to wear them with anything, anywhere. They are just comfortable and because they are popular right now, you can find a plethora of styles in stores and online. These Marshall Nash “Party Queen” sweats are a great addition if you are looking for some sweats that will be universal. There is always more than one way to wear a sweat suit and I am always on a mission to make them work for any occasion.

I’m No Model Either Baby…

IMG_4266.JPG

Every time I do a post or work with someone where I’m the subject of the photo shoot… I get slightly stressed out. I wanted to be a stylist because they work behind the scenes. I have just never been totally comfortable in front of the camera (still not). In this day and age of the personal style blogger. Sometimes it is necessary to be the subject, le sigh, and those days are the ones that are a challenge for me.

Must Watch: “Mademoiselle C”

IMG_4258.PNG

These days it feels like I barely have time to actually sit down and watch a movie or my favorite TV show.  I had some free time Friday evening and decided go to into the list of things I have been meaning to watch and chose the documentary “Mademoiselle C”. If you are unfamiliar, this is a documentary about the former editor of French Vogue Carine Roitfeld. The film follows her journey of creating her own magazine now titled C.R. FashionBook. You Should Know About: Pin Trill

Accessories are just as important as your ensemble. They are like the Lawrys seasoning to your outfit. They complete it, they are necessary, and they should be unique. Instagram is probably my favorite social networking site. I am highly visual about everything so it totally serves great purpose for me. Any way this post is not about my love for instagram, however I did discover the brand I am posting about today on there.

Happy Birthday!

IMG_3997.JPG

Happy Birthday to me! Who knew I could have two birthdays?! (my legit one is in January) Today a year ago I decided to get back into doing what I love and start blogging. I must say it is one of the best choices I’ve made this year. I love fashion and love people even more. To be able to write about my friends, people I admire, things I love (and not so much) has enabled me to flex creatively and learn about my strengths and bring them out in others. Having this blog has encouraged me to take risks and put myself out there is a way that I was not used to or comfortable with. To me this is not just another fashion blog, to me it’s something that I want you to love and appreciate and become something that you feel is yours as much as it is mine. Discipline is something that is a challenge for me sometimes, so being able to commit and stay consistent just means more for everyone ( and proof to myself that I am not a world class procrastinator.)  Thank you to all my friends, Family, and STRANGERS. Who retweet, like, re post , comment and come up to me in the streets to show love. It really means a lot to me. I will continue to commit to you and create. Thank you. And have some Hennessy for me today!

Gratefully,

Maryam (but my real name is Unicorn Shawty)

Jam Of The Week: Sza…

Her hair is amazing and her music is as well. I have been listening to Sza for a while now and I just can’t stop. This week her latest drop “Z” has been in heavy rotation. When I’m getting dressed in the morning for work, going out, or cleaning up; it always ends up on the playlist. Her voice is so smooth and her personal style totally reminds me of myself (now if I can just figure out her hair situation I will really flourish in these streets.)
